Bolts coming loose?

anyone have a major problem with bolts staying tight? I dont like to take my car on trips because my turbo, wastegate, dumptube and heat shield bolts keep coming loose? I have tried everything locking tabs lock washers..

Check the threads on the bolts and the threads in the bolt holes. I use lock wire on some parts that I have problems with but its only a few and I do it just in case. I hate losing bolts and not catching it for a long time. They come out of the headers on my mustang all the time.

Loctite works well for me. Blue stuff.

On parts that will get hot like the turbo, Blue Loctite is only good to ~200F and Red to ~400F.

Haven't tried the red... package talked like it was semi permanent. Is it hard to break to loose? I noticed the factory bolts had blue so I use blue.

It's easy to break loose with hand tools but it resists vibrations that could cause it to back out. It breaks down over 200F so it wouldn't last longer than a few minutes on an exhaust manifold. Any factory thread locker on parts like that, that was blue is purely coincidental.

What i did was tighten it up then let the car idle doe 15 min shut it off and you should be able to get a 1/4 turn more and they wont come out again...on their own anyway

/Agree
Heat cycling them then retorquing will get better results.

I just noticed agp now sells the bolt kit so Im going to buy that this way im starting with fresh bolts and let the car warm up and tighten again...

go with a higher grade bolt. they have more precise threads therefore a tigher fit....and their stronger

i didnt try them... but you could try:
Products - Nord-Lock

We use these on the MRI magnets we make at my work.  They are pretty good and work well under the massive temperature differences we see when cooling down superconductive magnets.  When we cool with liquid helium we cool down to 4 kelvin, or about -450 degree's Fahrenheit.  It's a bit different than heat cycles in how the metals react but still.
When I do have to take something apart after using nordlocks it take a lot of force to slip the lock.  The nordlock works by having 2 seperate washers.  Each waser has a side that bites into the oposite surface, then the other side has little ramps built in that slip and ramp against each other when tighting, and lock together when trying to loosen.  T
he problem is if you cannot get the washer to bite into the bolt, or the mating surface.  If either of these slip the lock is all but useless and works basically the same as a flat washer...  As long as the surfaces are clean and metal they should bite in good.  The problems start when you try to use them on softer materials like plastics, at least from the experiences I have had with them.

Or these seem to work well too...

i agree with heat cycling...im not a big fan of loctite....but u got to do what u got to do
