ok i am going to intsall the viper alarm 5901 system. I need to know if i need to remove the oem alarm system and how to do it....any write ups on it? i have searched with no luck, if i overlooked it i am sorry and will delete this thread.
When best buy did it for me I hink they left it...reason i say this is because my key FOB still works. With that said, I wish I would have never gone with an aftermarket alarm, the OEM one is good enough.

never seen a 12 gauge handgun before...
Its not a CHL...its a CWP
If you need to ask these questions, take it to be installed somewhere. Not trying to be a dick but just trying to prevent you from having the same headache I had during my 5901 install. Great system btw

trust me, if you have never installed an alarm before you probably won't get it right the first time. would you rather spend a little now and have it installed correctly in a day or screw your car up for weeks and not know how to fix it? you probably won't get any sort of warranty as you are supplying the equipment but someone with experience will do the install.
like others have said, it's nothing personal, we've just seen what has happened in the past. search around this forum for more alarm install questions and see the results.

You will use the fobs that come with the Alarm. You can put your factory fobs away.

ok i just dont understand how to disconnect it, like does the factory alarm inter twine with the computer on the car, so like if i unplug it will the car still start? thats what i meant sorry
You CANNOT remove the factory 'alarm' as it is built into the Remote Keyless Entry Brain/Body Computer up under the top dash pad. With it unplugged your door lock switches, door pins, trunk pop, etc will not work.
PLEASE seriously consider getting this done by a professional. I have been installing Car A/V/security for 10+ years now and TRUST me, this will only end badly.
Master ASE Certified or not, I have seen plenty of Master electricians, and also Electrical Engineers attempt to install even BASIC systems and end up breaking something, having things not work properly, or just come to me in utter frustration to do the job correctly. If he has any questions at all about the electronics in the car or the alarm system himself, he does not belong installing it. I am not trying to say that you or your friend are not smart enough to grasp the concept of installing it - or that professional installers are smarter than you two, the problem is unless you have installed tons of these in the past you don't have the practical knowledge to install it properly to make sure the system is giving you the correct protection and value that it should. I can tell you that a vehicle with an improperly remote start/alarm combo is much easier to steal by a seasoned car theif that one without so the importance of getting the install right is absolutely paramount.
There are a few members in this section that have gone down this path before, and most if not all have the same story to tell - tried it myself and ended up paying MORE than what I would have to get it fixed and installed right than if I had just brought it to a professional in the first place. At the very least, go around to reputable shops and get estimates, if the shop is legit they will not screw you. Also, you may be lucky enough to run into an installer that may offer to do it on the side for you for cash. Just something to keep in mind. |
